Thailand: Bangkok will be the last to lift the state of emergency (NSC)

The Thai capital of Bangkok will be the last region where a state of emergency is lifted, said Wednesday Thawil Pliansri, Secretary General of the National Security Council (NSC), quoted by the website of the Bangkok Post newspaper.

The decision to lift the state of emergency in Bangkok will be made public after careful studies, said Thawil.

Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Saphawasu Centre which is responsible for solving emergency situations (CRES), expressed concern on several occasions about the situation in Bangkok.

Mr. Thawil said that the NSC should review the situation and the proposal for gradually lifting the decree in the provinces still in a state of emergency, however, Bangkok is the last region where a state of emergency will be lifted.

The state of emergency was imposed in Bangkok and other provinces since April 17 to block the anti-government rally organized by the "red shirts".
