The Chinese Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu on Wednesday urged the authorities to focus on the resettlement of survivors in the district Zhouqu, devastated by a massive mudslide in Gansu province (northwest).
Efforts should be made to ensure the needs of survivors with food, water, clothing, shelter and medical care, Hui Liangyu said at a meeting of the Business Council of State concerning the relief and emergency assistance to Zhouqu.
He asked the authorities to accelerate the cleanup of streams near Zhouqu, and clearing mud and debris in urban areas of the district to prepare the ground for infrastructure repair and rebuilding Zhouqu.
Efforts must also be made to ensure public order in the affected areas, said Deputy Prime Minister. It also requires the opening of schools for the start of classes this fall and the earliest possible reopening of banks and post offices, "he added.
