Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met here Tuesday with former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama. The two sides also exchange views on Sino-Japanese cooperation on environmental protection.
Wen recalled his visit to Japan in May this year, expressing his hope that both countries can work together to implement the important consensus reached during his visit to strengthen mutual political trust and intensify cooperation to benefit both parties.
Mr. Hatoyama is currently visiting China as head of a delegation of legislators from the Democratic Party of Japan.
The delegation visited Caofeidian in Hebei Province (North China), where an economic zone will be built in recycling.
Wen Jiabao said that China firmly maintains its policy of openness and asks Japan to strengthen its trade and investment in China.
Commercial institutions, financial and research from China and Japan must assert their respective advantages and strengthen their cooperation to develop projects worldwide in the fields of recycling economy, green economics and less demanding energy, as well as in environmental protection, Wen said.
Mr. Hatoyama said he was pleased to see continued progress in relations between Japan and China.
He said that his delegation was impressed by his visit to Caofeidian and saw the potential of bilateral cooperation in energy saving and environmental protection.
